Description

Dublin’s smallest shop and its happy owners, 1951.

Winetavern Street is one of Dublin's oldest streets. It was populated by taverns and drinking establishments during the Viking, Hiberno Norse and medieval periods. One of the most common finds from this street during the Wood Quay excavations were tavern tokens. They look like small coins but are units of currency and were used in the taverns that used to line the street during medieval times to buy a cup of wine or ale.
