'It's a Long Way to Tipperary' was written in 1912 by Jack Judge as a drinking song. His grandparents were from Tipperary. It came to the public's attention when it was heard amongst the ranks of the Connaught Rangers in the First World War. It became known all over the world when the great Irish tenor Count John McCormack recorded it in 1914.
