Description

Joseph McGuinness was the first Sinn Fein member to be voted into Westminster in 1917. The slogan, 'Vote him in to get him out' was thought up by Michael Collins. McGuinness was serving time in Lewes prison in England for his part in the 1916 Rising when he won the south Longford seat, but did not take his seat in Westminster, but in Ireland's first Dail instead.
