Description

Guinness had a fleet of ten barges which commenced working on the river in 1927. They were all named after a Dublin locality. The other boats were ‘Farmleigh’, ‘Knockmaroon’, ‘Chapelizod’, ‘Fairyhouse’, ‘Clonsilla’, ‘Killiney’, ‘Sandyford’, ‘Howth’ and ‘Seapoint’, delivered in succession up to 1931. The end of the Emergency during World War II saw the return of plentiful supplies of fuel for the new fleet of Guinness trucks which took over the work of the barges.
