Irish Boarding ‘Coffin Ships’ to America,1800’s.

This is a spectacular picture. It's the last hope. It was a grand ship no doubt with fine rigging. But now it's going to be over-crowded and over loaded with desperate people escaping a certain death...An Gorta Mór, The Great Hunger, The Potato Famine, beseiged Ireland roughly between 1845 until 1852. Times were desperate for the Irish and for thousands, the only way to survive was to sail to Britain or America. The ships were known as coffin ships due to the hazards experienced on board, malnutrition and disease claimed the lives of thousands of emigrants.

We are delighted to present these fascinating rarities of old Ireland for you to own.
