The Rotunda started up as a maternity hospital in 1757 and became the largest of its kind in the world. Part of the building was the Round Room, used as a theatre, now known as the Ambassador Cinema. At that time, it hosted musicals, plays, operas and classical music concerts and this is a typical advertisement of the time c.1900.
