Daniel O'Connell Life Insurance Policy
Daniel O'Connell's life was insured on the 30th October 1820 for £3,250.00. He lists his name, date of birth, born at Carhen, near Cahirciveen in Co. Kerry. He claims never to have been in the army or navy, which would obviously be a more hazardous occupation. Thankfully he never suffered from Small Pox or Chicken Pox or gout. May seem like strange things to us today but these conditions were prevalent and dangerous at that time. You will also notice the name of O'Connell's uncle, Maurice 'Hunting Gun' O'Connell who sponsored young Daniel as he studied in France and later as he was admitted as a barrister in King's Inns in Dublin. A rare legacy of "The Liberator"! Dimensions: 13" x 8"
