The pub has served many famous faces too. John F. Kennedy savoured the brews here back in 1945 when he worked with the Hearst Newspaper dynasty. Judy Garland used to drink here seven nights a week when she performed at the Theatre Royal, apparently smoking & playing poker until the early hours..but this 230 year old pub is perhaps most famous for its association with James Joyce, who set one of his short stories on the premises.
