If you're ever near Athlone, pay a visit to Sean's bar, the oldest pub in Ireland, established c.900 AD. The ceilings are low, the lights are dim, the floor is uneven and the walls are packed with antiques, memorabilia and history. The fireplace has been in use for 1100 years and is still going strong. Live music every night, great Guinness, and they do their own whiskey here. Research is ongoing into the title of 'The Oldest Pub in the World', so far, nothing older than Sean's Bar has been found.
