On this day, 1954, Ellis Island is closed. From 1892 to 1954, millions of Irish immigrants entered the U.S through Ellis Island. The first recorded immigrant was 14 year old Annie Moore accompanied by her two brothers, Anthony (11) and Phillip (7) from Co. Cork.
