Robert Emmet (1778-1803) was an Irish patriot. One of his last speeches ends with: 'Let no man write my epitaph.....When my country takes her place among the nations of the earth, then, and not till then, let my epitaph be written. I have done."

In 1803, he lead a failed rebellion against Dublin Castle.  He was arrested soon after and charged with high treason. On 19th September 1803, he was hung, drawn and quartered, the last man in Ireland to receive this punishment.
