Description

"Birth of the Irish Republic" from the wonderful painting by Walter Paget depicting the GPO during the British onslaught. The painting now hangs in The GPO, a reminder of the bravery and courage of those men and women who took up their positions on Easter Monday 24th April, 1916 in an effort for Ireland's Independence.

At the height of the shelling James Connolly lies wounded, Pádraig Pearse and Tom Clarke can be seen marshaling their forces as they face impossible odds. Seven days of glorious hell followed by court martial and execution for its brave leaders as they paid the ultimate price. This visual artistic representation is a must for any collection.
