Irish Emigration 'Coffin Ship', Belfast to New York, 1848.
The Great Famine was two years old at this stage and many were desperate to leave Ireland and start a new life in America. These ships became known as 'Coffin Ships' as conditions were extremely poor. Many people died from starvation & disease. Poignant rare piece to honour the trip many of our ancestors took.
