Description
JFK's Great Grandfather, Patrick Kennedy, lived in this house in New Ross, Co. Wexford before emigrating to America during the famine in 1848. On his visit to the cottage in June 1963, JFK said: “This is where it all began...” Inside he drank tea and ate homemade scones with his cousins. When it was time to leave, Kennedy was noticeably emotional. Before departing Shannon airport, Kennedy said “This is not the land of my birth, but it is the land for which I hold the greatest affection".
