Description
This is a fascinating and moving piece. A momentous occasion of the proclamation of a SOVEREIGN INDEPENDENT IRISH STATE. It is on one hand, recognition of the valour of Irish men and women who are about to win a glorious place among the nations. And on the other hand, an appeal for support of every Irishman and Irishwoman to help in a common cause. Barricades must be built. The wounded need attention. Food and sustenance needs to be provided to the volunteers. Pearse finishes his salute by saying:
“We have lived to see an Irish Republic proclaimed. May we live to establish it firmly, and may our children and our children’s children enjoy the happiness and prosperity which our freedom will bring.”
Pearse didn’t live to see the establishment of the State, but his actions paved the way for Irish freedom.
