Description
Historic and colourful poster seen on the streets of Dublin in the summer of 1881. It announces a public meeting in the Phoenix Park “to enable the inhabitants of the metropolis and surrounding distracts to express their sympathies with the cause of the Down-todden tenant farmers of Ireland.”
The Land League picketed against the unfair renting laws that gave the Landowners a stranglehold over their tenants. The main issue being a type of debt slavery, where tenants could never have the right to own there own land and where eternally committed to paying excess rents in perpetuity.
The Land League was set up by Charles Stuart Parnell, Michael Davitt and several other prominent political dissidents. Truly an emotive poster and a reflection of turbulent times.
We are delighted to be able to present these fascinating rarities of old Ireland for you to own.
We look forward to helping you create your own collection that can be treasured and admired by your family for many generations to come!
