Description
A stern warning from landlord Richard Martin, 'Hair Trigger Dick' to poachers on the River Corrib, Galway. The year is 1749.
You are a humble tenant existing on “poor law” soil in the place of 'The Tribes'. One thing is certain. You will poach. You will not rob the rivers dry. You will feed your family. But at your peril! Ask yourself this; is the fish on your table for the pleasure of the landed gentry? I don’t think I would have liked Richard Martin and furthermore, I doubt if I would have kept six miles from “his” river. And to hell with his hardened gamekeeper! Yet in his son there was some redemption…His son, Richard was known as 'Humanity Dick' for his work to protect the wildlife in the area. 'Humanity Dick' went on to establish the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.
