Where Brendan Behan had his last drink - The Harbour Lights Bar, now known as The Old Harbour or Harkins on Echlin Street in Dublin 8. After collapsing here, he was transferred to the Meath Hospital in Portobello, where he died aged 41. Behan's last words to his nurse, a nun, were “Sister, may all your sons be bishops"
Established c.1860, the Harbour Bar is the closest pub to the Guinness Brewery. They do a lovely pint in here. So close to the brewery, the kegs could be rolled across the road.
The harbour the pub is named after was located behind the curved building across the road and was used to transport via barges the many barrels to/ from the Guinness Brewery. When road transport became more popular, the canals were dried up and filled in around the mid 70's and eventually the LUAS had tracks installed along their route between the Suir Road and Fatima stops.
