Darkey Kelly's pub on Fishamble Street, named after a woman who ran a popular brothel off the street in the 1750's. She was executed for murder and witchcraft after killing shoemaker John Dowling on St. Patrick's Day in 1760. She was burned at the stake on Baggot Street. Fishamble Street is one of the oldest streets in Dublin. It was the official fish market for Dublin until the 17th century. The world premiere of Handel’s Messiah was performed here in 1742 and every year on the 13th of April the Messiah is performed free of charge to the public. This year's performance will take place next Thursday at 1pm.
